ABOUT KAT

My Journey to Sound Therapy

My backround in the wellness industry started in the late 90’s training as a massage therapist, and stems from seeing the depilating effects of stress, depression, and disease within my own family. My long and well traveled career as a bodyworker includes training in many different alternative holistic modalities, and being a bit of a nomad…I have been lucky enough to have worked at some incredible wellness facilities and locations throughout the world. As my life and career progressed, I was drawn to learn more about energy work, our subtle multidimensional bodies, chakras, and vibrational medicine. While on my own healing journey a couple years ago and working through grief and pain, I discovered the healing power of Napelese bowls and sound. I knew from that point on I wanted to share this profound ancient modality with others which has become my passion and focus in this next phase on my path.

ABOUT SOUND THERAPY

My Method

On body with bowls.JPG

I am a certified practitioner of Atma Buti Sound & Vibrational School out of Boulder Colorado and study under master teacher Suren Shrestha. Suren brought these ancient protocols and treatments from his home country of Nepal, and has been teaching for over 25 years. Atma Buti is the only sound and vibrational program certified in the US; to become a practitioner I went through a 200 hour hands on program, and then continued to assist in classes and take advanced level training.

What is unique about Atma Buti’s method is that it is passed down orally through hands-on training and experience, and most importantly focuses on the spiritual intention of bringing the subtle body back into vibrational wellness. In sound therapy, and specific to Atma Buti methods and protocols, the frequency and vibration work together to bring our body back into harmony.

The bowls we use are handmade Himalayan singing bowls. These particular bowls are hand hammered by local Nepalese Shakya clans, and with each strike they chant their spiritual mantra, using the same method that goes back to the time of Buddha. The bowls are made of seven sacred metals aligned with the seven chakras of our body, and when played can harmonize the chakras while stimulating our life force energy, among many other benefits.

The sounds are used in the same way as breath in meditation: to influence shifts in our brainwaves from beta waves down to alpha, theta, and even delta waves. The overtones of the singing bowls produce “binaural beats” and frequencies, encourage brain “entrainment”, stimulating brain waves through pulsing sound or light waves that help you feel relaxed. Studies have shown that singing bowl sound meditation can produce physiological and psychological responses, reducing negative affect and increasing positive affect, improving blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate and activating the parasympathetic nervous system. The vibrations of the bowls, when used near or on a client's body, sometimes referred to as “vibroacoustic massage”, penetrates deep into the muscles and tissues , releasing tension and leaving the client with a sense of lightness and ease in their body.

As the human body is made up of approximately 70%+ water, when one rubs a singing bowl on the body, the bowls' healing vibrations can penetrate the layers of fascia to move our cells and improve circulation, helping to speed up the healing process, oxygenate our blood, and creating a shift in our nervous system. Singing bowls can be especially beneficial for those who suffer from chronic pain, trauma, anxiety, high blood pressure, stress, depression, Parkinson’s, ADHD, arthritis, fibromialga, insomnia, etc.. On an energetic subtle body level the sound vibrations open, clear, and balance their chakras and release stuck energy. This is because each of these energy centers has a “unique vibrational frequency”. These frequencies can interact with the vibration frequencies that are created when playing a singing bowl. The experience has been described as "energetic deep tissue massage”.

KIND WORDS

I had the most incredible experience at Kat’s sound therapy session!  From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warmth and positivity that set the tone for the entire visit. Kat is a natural with the instruments, and it was evident throughout the session (I loved the gong!). She is full of knowledge on the history, technicalities, and health benefits of each instrument, and intuitively knew exactly where to focus her attention on. The gentle vibrations and resonances of the sound bowls were soothing, and it felt like every cell in my body tuned to and harmonized with each sound. I felt complete inner peace with my thoughts. As someone who had never tried or even knew what sound therapy was before this session, I can promise that it forces your mind, body, and spirit to relax in a way that no other form of healing modality can compare.  This is not just a massage or form of therapy; this is a journey of self-healing.

Whether you're in need of relaxation, stress relief, or simply want to treat yourself to something special, Kat’s HyVibz Wellness is the place to be.
